Day 1: Arrive In Livingstone And Enjoy A Zambezi River Boat Cruise
Welcome to Zambia! Your 4 Days Victoria Falls Trip will start as soon as you touch down at the Harry Mwanga Nkumbula International Airport near the town of Livingstone in the south of the country. You will be met our company representative who will help load the bags into our comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle before you set off for your lodge situated nearby.
Livingstone is the tourism hub for the nearby Victoria Falls and was named after Scottish explorer and missionary Dr. David Livingstone, who was the first European to explore the region. It is a relaxed and friendly town, with a few nice museums and some great restaurants.
Your comfortable accommodation will be located on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River.
Zambezi River Boat Cruise
After settling in and getting familiar with your surroundings you will make your way to the river for a very exciting activity that will stay in your memory for a long time.
You will board one of the many comfortable cruisers that glide up and down the Zambezi River on a daily basis, with staff that know the river intimately.
You will be provided with snacks and drinks while slowly cruising the river for two hours, a truly unforgettable experience. Remember to look not just at the superb sunset (awesome photos guaranteed!), but also wild animals and birds on the water and at the water’s edge.
You can see the African Elephants, African Buffalos, huge Nile Crocodiles, Brown-necked Parrots, Western Banded Snake Eagles, African Skimmer, Western Ospreys, and African Finfoot to name just a few. After a boat cruise, you’ll return to the lodge and freshen up. After that, you’ll enjoy a sundowner drink and your welcome dinner.
In the background, you’ll have the sounds of the wildlife that live along the mighty Zambezi River. Then you’ll settle in for a good night’s sleep. Welcome to Zambia!
Day 2: Guided Victoria Falls Tour And Afternoon Optional Adventure Activity
After a delicious breakfast, you’ll make your way to the famous Victoria Falls where you’ll spend the morning enjoying one of the natural wonders of the world and walking in the riverine woodland around the falls.
Where does one begin to describe the awe and thrill of Victoria Falls? The Vic Falls are unquestionably the main attraction, and there no doubt why. Two times the height of Niagara Falls, this is the world’s largest uninterrupted sheet of falling water, displacing 500 million litters of water per minute (the equivalent of 200 Olympic-sized swimming pools).
Shared by the 2 countries, Zambia and Zimbabwe, protected within two national parks, Victoria Falls National Park and Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, this is a Natural World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.
Victoria Falls is also an adventure centre of note. You could stay for weeks and enjoy a different activity every day, from bungee jumping, gorge swinging and white-water rafting, to helicopter and microlight flights (a.k.a the flight of angels), horse riding, abseiling, and so much more.
Today, you will have an exhilarating walk across the ‘Knife-edge Bridge’, which offers a close-up view of the ‘Boiling Pot’ (a scary whirlpool at the base of the falls) and, for the really adventurous, a dip in the famous ‘Devil’s Pool’. Remember to come with your cameras.
You will have lunch somewhere in town close to the Vic falls after an exhilarating morning. The afternoon is all yours to enjoy as you want!
Optional Afternoon Activities
- A helicopter or microlight flight over the falls and surrounding area (highly recommended)
- Bungee jumping off the Victoria Falls Bridge
- White water rafting on the Zambezi River
- Guided walking safari in Mosi-Oa-Tunya national park which is home to White Rhinos
- Abseiling at the Victoria Falls gorge
- Zipline and gorge swings
Day 3: Upper Zambezi Canoeing Trip & Cultural Village Tour
Day three of your 4 Days Victoria Falls Trip also includes canoeing on the Zambezi and a local cultural experience. In the morning, you will enjoy a half-day canoeing adventure on the Upper Zambezi River, above the spectacular Victoria Falls.
Canoeing is the ideal way to tour the scenic Upper Zambezi River area. The excursion will start with a safety briefing by the professional river guide.
You will also have a quick practice session on the water before the paddle begins. The paddle is not challenging. It involves navigating only small, easy rapids, and you don’t need to have canoeing experience.
You will take a leisurely paddle down the Upper Zambezi, looking out for crocodiles, buffalos, hippos, elephants, kudus, impalas, and other wild creatures along the river banks.
A canoe ride along the river is also a great way to spot many birds, look out for the great Martial Eagle, among the over 50 bird species commonly seen.
Also pass national parks on the Zimbabwean banks and pristine bush on the Zambian side. This gentle paddle is all about soaking up the gorgeous scenery and enjoying the local fauna and flora up close. Afterward, there is time for a picnic lunch on the riverbank.
Guided Victoria Falls Tour
After lunch the fun doesn’t stop, as you visit Mukuni Village. A knowledgeable English-speaking local guide will take you on the village tour.
You will get an insight into the lives of local people and their rich cultural traditions. You will see how the Leya people of Zambia live and find out more about their unique customs and history. Mukuni Village was established in the 13th century. It was the largest village on the Zambian side of Victoria Falls before Livingstone was founded.
Mukuni Village was previously known as Gundu. It was retitled after Chief Mukuni from the Congo when he seized it in the 18th century.
Today this rural village of Africa is home to approximately 7000 people and has its own clinic, two churches, school, shops, boreholes, and bars.
During the village tour, you’ll see how the local people build and decorate their huts, engage in small-scale farming, and create African curios. It is a fascinating glimpse into the mix of modern and traditional living in Zambia.
Day 4: Return Home
There are no activities planned for the final day and you are able to depart the accommodation at any time.
A departure airport transfer to Victoria Falls Airport is included and you will be collected from the lodge and transferred for your departing flight. Your local guide will confirm your pick-up time on Day 3 of this 4 Days Victoria Falls Trip.
