This lake-side city is famous for being the historic source of the River Nile, the longest river in the world and one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa – and more recently, for developing into the adventure capital of East Africa.

Here, you will enjoy a one hour boat cruise to the actual source of the Nile River, where majestic Lake Victoria pours into the Nile, beginning its 6,650 kilometer long journey north to the Mediterranean Sea.

After this little stop in Jinja, you will continue on a very scenic drive east toward to Sipi Area in the foothills of Mountain Elgon- an extinct shield volcano on the border of Uganda and Kenya.

The falls are made up of a series of three waterfalls along the foothills of the Mount Elgon. You’ll hike to each of the waterfalls starting with the top most coming down to the last one which is the biggest falling 100m.

You can take a swim in the cold whirlpool which is famously referred to as ‘natural swimming pool’.

At the main and biggest Sipi fall you’ll do the epic abseiling and feel the adrenaline rush as you drop 100m and just a few meters from the waterfalls.

You’ll go back to the lodge for lunch and some relaxation. After lunch you will go on a tour of a small local coffee producing farm. This is the perfect time to pick up some high-quality Ugandan coffee to take home to your friends and family.

Optional Activities

If you are missing a bit adrenaline in your day you can abseil from the top of the 100-m-high Sipi Falls. Hanging from a rope in the cool mist of the cascading falls right beside you, you will have a spectacular panoramic view of the valley below.

There are numerous other optional excursions and activities that you can participate in to make the most of your time here.

You may wish to join a guided village walk, rock climbing, bird watching, cave adventuring or Boda Boda (Motorcycle riding) tour.

The town is located near the gentle slopes of volcanic Mount Moroto (3085 meters), and it is the beating heart of the Karamoja region.  In this remote and until recently quite isolated part of Uganda, some of the best outdoor adventures and authentic cultural experiences await you!

On arrival, you will take a scenic hike on Mount Moroto, the highest mountain of Karamoja. During the hike you will meet the Tepeth tribe and learn about culture; spirits, gods and sacred sites of these fascinating mountain people.

Accommodation: Karamoja Safari Camp

Day 5: Visit a Manyatta & Game Drive in Kidepo National Park

After a delicious breakfast today, you’ll visit traditional Karamajong manyatta for an interesting insight into the customs and traditions of the Karamajong people.

A manyatta is village made up of several huts, which in turn are surrounded by a fence made of branches and thorns. These are put up to keep the cattle in and to protect them from thieving rival tribes and wild animals.

After this cultural experience, you will travel farther north to discover one of Africa’s genuine hidden gems – Kidepo National Park. This park has been ranked by CNN travel in the recent past as one of Africa safari destinations

But, regardless of its high rating, it is still one of the least visited Uganda game parks. This is partly due to its isolated location. It is situated in the rugged semi-arid valleys in the far northeast of country. It lies hidden away in a corner between Uganda’s borders with South Sudan and Kenya.

The trip is a long but very rewarding journey to get to this region with some of the most beautiful scenery in Uganda.

On your arrival to the park you’ll go on an evening game drive to see herds of elephant and buffalo. You might even spot some lions and leopards perching on the various rocks dotting the valley floor.

Kidepo has a profusion of big game and hosts 475 bird species and over 80 mammal species, among them; lions, ostriches, zebras, bat-eared foxes, aardwolves, caracals, cheetahs, and greater and lesser kudus. The park ranks among Africa’s finest wilderness landscapes.

Your senses are aware of every sound and movement in the bush and you see things at ground level that you would otherwise miss. With an expert ranger guide you will also learn a lot about the inhabitants of the park and how to recognize their tracks. This is an exciting and very rewarding activity.

You will then pack your bags, check out and transfer to town of Gulu, the largest town in northern Uganda. You will be spending the night in Gulu Churchill Courts Hotel. It is a very basic hotel, yet one of the best in town.

Day 8: Track Rhinos in Ziwa Sanctuary & Drive back in Entebbe

Don’t forget to take photos or to breathe – you will get to appreciate what a two-ton animal really looks like while your adrenaline is pumping.
