Itinerary
Early Morning Departure from Kampala. Depart Kampala early to make the most of the day, heading east along the Kampala-Jinja highway. This route takes you through changing scenery, from the city's edges into lush countryside and forest.
Ssezibwa Falls. Your first stop is Ssezibwa Falls, a scenic and spiritually significant waterfall just outside Kampala, considered sacred by the Buganda kingdom. A short guided walk brings you to the falls themselves, with time to learn about the local legends and cultural beliefs tied to the site, and to take in the surrounding forest scenery.
Mabira Forest. Continue east to Mabira Forest, one of Uganda's largest surviving natural rainforests and a haven for birdlife, butterflies, and primates. Take a guided nature walk along the forest trails, keeping an eye out for red-tailed monkeys and a wide variety of forest bird species. Lunch in Jinja. Arrive in Jinja around midday for lunch at a local restaurant overlooking the Nile, a well-earned break before the afternoon's main highlight.
Source of the Nile. In the afternoon, visit the Source of the Nile, the point where the world's longest river begins its journey from Lake Victoria. Take a short boat ride out to the actual source point, learning about the river's history and its significance to explorers and local communities alike. For those seeking more excitement, this is also the starting point for optional white water rafting, quad biking, or a longer sunset boat cruise along the Nile.
Return to Kampala. In the late afternoon, begin the drive back to Kampala, arriving in the early evening.
