1. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest: Home of the Mountain Gorilla
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is Uganda's most famous forest and one of the world's great wildlife habitats. This ancient rainforest covers about 331 square kilometres in southwestern Uganda and protects nearly half of the world's mountain gorillas, with around 20 habituated gorilla families across four sectors: Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga and Nkuringo.

Kibale Forest National Park in western Uganda is the country's top chimpanzee trekking destination. Its evergreen rainforest, close to Fort Portal, holds around 1,500 chimpanzees and 13 primate species in total, including red colobus, L'Hoest's monkeys and grey-cheeked mangabeys.
A chimpanzee trekking permit in Kibale costs US$250 per person for foreign non-residents. Budongo Forest Reserve is one of the largest natural forests in East Africa, covering about 825 square kilometres in the Murchison Falls Conservation Area. It is famous for its giant mahogany trees and one of Uganda's largest chimpanzee populations, with habituated communities tracked near Kaniyo Pabidi. 5. Murchison Falls National Park: Big Game on the Nile
Murchison Falls National Park is Uganda's largest national park, covering about 3,840 square kilometres of savannah bush, woodland and riverine forest along the Victoria Nile. It has large herds of elephants, buffalo and Uganda kob, plenty of lions and the country's biggest population of Rothschild's (Nubian) giraffes.

Kalinzu Forest Reserve is a moist evergreen forest of about 137 square kilometres next to Queen Elizabeth National Park, managed by Uganda's National Forestry Authority. The forest is also home to red-tailed monkeys, blue monkeys and black-and-white colobus.
